Description This is skilled water safety work involving the prevention of accidents and injuries and responding with effective care and treatment to emergency situations at aquatic pool areas. Works independently with periodic supervision provided by the Facility Supervisor and or Aquatics Manage
Job Requirements
Essential Job Duties Safeguard patrons while maintaining skills at a rescue-ready level and monitoring pools for guest safety. Performs emergency water rescue techniques to assist persons in distress; performs CPR and administers standard first aid when necessary. Ensures general safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures are adhered to as it pertains to aquatic facilities. Assists with aquatics programs and equipment setup for special events. Ensures general upkeep, cleanliness, and appearance of aquatics amenities including pool areas, restrooms, showers, and deck areas. Performs related work as required.
Typical Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Knowledge of water rescue methods, CPR, and first aid techniques. Knowledge of park rules and regulations concerning public safety. Ability to handle frightened or injured persons in the water. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations. Ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly but tactfully. Ability to remain alert over long periods of time. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, and the general public. Ability to swim 300 yards (freestyle or breaststroke). Ability to tread water for 2 min using only legs. Ability to swim 20 yd., dive to retrieve 10 lb brick in 7- 12 ft. Depth. Resurface, swim back to entry point and get out of the pool without using a ladder in 1 min 30 sec or less. Ability to pass a medical skills evaluation.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations: American Red Cross lifeguard certification or enrollment in course and attainment prior to start date. American Red Cross first aid certification or enrollment in course and attainment prior to start date. American Red Cross CPR / AED certification or enrollment in course and attainment prior to start date
