Cafe Assistant I & II for Brevard County School District- North Brevard area (Cocoa to Mims)

As a Cafe Assistant, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional customer service, ensuring food safety standards are met, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for students and staff alike. This position offers a unique chance to showcase your culinary skills and hospitality expertise while contributing to the educational community s success.

Duties

Greet students, staff, and visitors with enthusiasm and professionalism, providing outstanding in-person customer service.

Assist with food preparation, serving meals, and maintaining cleanliness in dining areas according to food safety sanitizing procedures.

Operate kitchen equipment and POS (Point of Sale) systems efficiently to process transactions accurately.

Follow food handling protocols diligently, ensuring proper storage, portioning, and dietary accommodations as needed.

Maintain cleanliness by cleaning workstations, dining areas, and kitchen equipment regularly to uphold hygiene standards.

Support food safety management by adhering to all health regulations and participating in sanitation procedures.

Handle weight-based tasks such as portioning ingredients or supplies with precision and care.

Responsible for performing a variety of routine kitchen tasks including but not limited to food preparation, cooking, baking, production, cleaning, serving, and cashiering while providing customer service to students and staff.

Job Requirements

General Cafe Assistant I

Assist with large-scale food production, cooking, baking, and meal service by following proper meal standards as required by local, state, and federal regulations, food safety guidelines, and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) principals and procedures.

General Cafe Assistant II

***All of the above duties for General Cafe Assistant I, with the additional duties listed below:

Prepare all types of baked or cooked food items according to the standardized recipes at the prescribed time, temperatures, quantities, and quality.

Inventory supplies for baking and cooking; check and order food and supplies through cafeteria manager.

Organize and plan material for the daily menu.

Prepare reports regarding products baked or cooked; keep records of recipes used in baking and cooking, account for leftovers, and supply such information to the manager

Qualifications

Previous experience in fine dining, food preparation, or restaurant environments is highly desirable.

Knowledge of food safety sanitizing procedures and general food handling practices.

Experience operating kitchen equipment and POS systems is preferred.

Strong customer service skills with the ability to engage positively with diverse groups of people.

Familiarity with catering, banquet service, or hospitality roles enhances your candidacy.

Ability to perform manual handling tasks safely and efficiently, including weight handling in the workplace.

Basic math skills for processing cash transactions and managing inventory or supplies.

Additional experience such as culinary training, food industry background, barista experience, or dietary aide roles is a plus.
