EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Cleans offices, storerooms, corridors, stairways, and other areas.
Sweeps, dry mops, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors, using brooms, mops, lightweight vacuum cleaners, and lightweight floor scrubbers and buffers.
Dusts, waxes, and polishes furniture. Empties ashtrays and wastebaskets. Washes walls, windows, and blinds.
Keeps restrooms clean, orderly, and sanitary condition.
Sweeps, scrubs, and waxes floors. Cleans, disinfects, and deodorizes lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls.
Cleans mirrors, sinks, and water fountains.
Dusts ledges and woodwork.
Replaces deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap.
Notes condition of restroom and reports to supervisor broken windows, water leaks, clogged drains, and other conditions requiring maintenance.
Keeps a stock of cleaning materials and equipment needed to do the work.
Tells supervisor when more materials are needed or when equipment is in need of repair or replacement.
Scrubs, strips, waxes, and polishes floors using heavy, industrial-type powered scrubbers and buffers.
Vacuum cleans rugs, using heavy, industrial-type vacuum cleaner. Adjusts, cleans, and oil these machines, and changes brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments on them.
Washes and replaces venetian blinds, and washes ceiling fixtures and room partitions, using ladders and scaffolds. Moves heavy furniture, supplies and equipment.
Replaces defective light bulbs.
Assists in making simple repairs to buildings and equipment, including painting.
Empties trash and garbage cans, cleans food conveyors.
Cleans stoves, tables and refrigerators.
Washes floors in kitchens and cafeterias.
Moves office furniture and equipment from place to place as directed.
May be required to assist in any type of facilities maintenance and craft work at any County owned or rented facility.
Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Some knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment typically used in janitorial work.
Ability to understand and follow simple oral or written instructions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is heavy physical work.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work may include exposure to dirt, cleaning chemicals, fumes and moving machinery.
